After having the night run of Round 5 in July we stepped back into the light with RC Veszprém Trial Championship & Hungarian Trial Championship 2019 Round 6 on 18th August 2019 @Vilonya.
After having reached my lifetime best with 115 points on Round 5 I was focused to take a look into the world of being under 100 points.
I analyzed the former results charts and I found that having under 100 points can be good enough to finish at a scoring position not only in the Hungarian Trial Championship but in the RC Veszprém Trial Championship as well.
This seemed to be the next step in my evolution as a scale rock crawler RC comp driver.
The Track
I have collected 540 points on the last round @Vilonya. It was a lifetime worst so I was a bit stressed about the track line.
When arrived I saw that the guys over at RC Veszprém marked a very impressive and challenging track again. From the next round of the championship I will shoot a short video about the track line so you will be able to follow it.
There were several tricky and challenging points, the dynamics were good. Despite the numerous cliffs many driver passed the track without using the winch.
The Rig
My key upgrade for Round 6 was to narrow the track width of ALU Racer as it was 240mm with the Pit Bull Rock Beast XL tires. I truly love the performance of the Alien Kompound beasts but they were too wide for the 270mm gates.
My first choice was Pro-Line Interco TSL SX Super Swamper with its 1.5″ width mounted on RC4WD Pro-10 Stamped Steel rims but I was a bit afraid that the 4.3″ outer diameter will cause too low ground clearance.
Nonetheless I assembled the wheel setup with custom made dual stage foam inserts (soft for the fronts, medium for the rears).
Then came a video from my teammate Bálint Czere @Team KRAWL featuring a Voodoo X4 mounted rig. That was the point I fell in love with the dimensions of those tires: 1.4″(!) width and 4.75″ outer diameter.
I immediately ordered the X4 tires with Crawler Innovations Lil’ Nova dual stage foam inserts (soft for the fronts, medium for the rears).
As the shipping was much faster then expected, I decided to assemble the Voodoo X4 tires sets already for Round 6 so I dropped the Pro-Line TSL’s.
Final Results
Round 6 started with very ominous signs for me so it was a huge challenge to stay focused and unstressed.
First some guys noticed that I mounted the Voodoo X4 sets reversed patterns in the hurry the day before the race so I had to fix the issue in prompt.
After having the X4 patterns in the right direction I made some tests and found that the tires are great but the foam inserts were too hard which could be deadly on this track.
I decided to drop the X4 sets for the race and mounted the formerly ready-made Pro-Line Interco TSL SX Super Swamper sets. I made some short testing on ther rocks again and I found that these sets works more than great.
After spending the whole time with mounting instead of getting focused on my race I finally finished my works when #13 driver started. I was #15 so I had about 10 minutes to get the mental work done before start.
I had a very bad and time-consuming rollover on the first rock cliff I tried to climb without winch so I needed a very intensive mental work to stay focused for the rest of my race.
Thanks to being able to stay in flow and the active help of my teammate Bálint Czere @Team KRAWL I finished the race within the time limits and a very impressive 60 points result which is a new lifetime best.
Despite the stressful prelude my race @Round 6 turned into a happy end and finishing 5th place in the Hungaryian Championship / 7th place in the RC Veszprém Trial Championships I collected valuable points in both competition series.
The key upgrade for the next round is obviously to prepare a capable Voodoo X4 tires setup with properly customized foam inserts and mounted on the RC4WD Pro-10 Stamped Steel rims instead the TFL aluminium ones.
Team KRAWL success: I’m proud to tell that my driver mate Bálint Czere @Team KRAWL with his one-gate-only 15 points result gorgiously won the 2019 Round 6 of the RC Veszprém Trial Championship.
With this Team KRAWL scored a total of 31 points in the RC Veszprém Trial Championship and 10 points in the Hungarian Trial Championship on Round 6.
Special Thanks
